69577 - Influence Study on End-face Quality of Square Billet in Plate Cross Wedge Rolling
Cross wedge rolling (CWR) is an efficient metal plastic forming technology, which is a less no-cutting, near-net forming process. It has the advantages of static pressure forming, high material utilization rate, stable production quality, and easy realization of mechanization and automation, and has attracted the attention of the processing industry. The rolling billet is mainly round shape billet when rolling small parts. Because it is difficult to obtain large-size round billets, the cross wedge rolling process is limited to some extent in forming large parts. Most of the existing researches at home and abroad are carried out from methods such as optimizing process parameters, innovative forming molds and innovative process methods. The paper breaks through the limitations of traditional round shape billets, innovates plate cross wedge rolling to form square billets, and establishes the movement model and rotation conditions of square billet cross wedge rolling. 42CrMo steel, a kind of steel with good mechanical properties, was selected as the square billet material, and the plate cross wedge rolling model of square billet, die and wedge was simulated by Deform 3D software. The point tracking method is used to explore the relationship between the rolling time and the displacement of the three tracking points on the billet in the forming process, compare the shape of the billet before and after the forming of the cross wedge rolling, and to clarify the concave formation mechanism at the rolled part end. In order to obtain a rolling piece with a small end concavity and a flat end surface, a retaining wedge is added to the plate cross wedge rolling die, and the wedge parameters are designed reasonably. Through the four-factor three-level orthogonal experiment, the influence law of wedge angle, wedge distance, forming angle and widening angle on the end quality of rolled piece are obtained. The research results provide a theoretical basis for the reasonable selection of the retaining wedge parameters and the process parameters. A reasonable combination of parameters can effectively control the concavity at the end of the billet and improve the end quality of the rolled product. The paper breaks through the innovation of square billet forming by cross wedge rolling, by changing the shape of the original billet and optimizing the process parameters to control the concavity at the end of the rolled piece, which is of great reference value and engineering significance to realize the near net forming of the square billet.
