146775 - A Representative Elementary Volume Study: The Mechanical Effect of the Inclusion of Carbon Nanotube on Zinc-Silver Oxide.
Exploring alternatives to widely used lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is critical to address their inherent limitations, meet the diverse needs of emerging technologies, and ensure a sustainable, secure, and self-reliant energy future. Zinc-ion-based batteries (ZIBs) are a promising replacement for certain applications. However, along with optimizing performance characteristics, the structural integrity of batteries poses significant challenges that require in-depth research. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), with their superior electrical conductivity, large surface area, and mechanical strength, have the potential to increase the energy and power density, and discharge capacity of ZIBs. However, the cathode mechanical performance analysis due to the inclusion of CNT is important to confirm the battery overall structural integrity. The hypothesis of the project: Inclusion of CNT with porous Zn-Ag2O cathode delivers desired ZIB cathode mechanical performance. Using computational modeling and simulation through ABAQUS software, this study investigates the influence of CNT integration on ZIB cathode mechanical performance, focusing on the temperature at −10 °C – a temperature that degrades battery efficiency. The outcome of this research could significantly advance the field of energy storage, with major implications for sustainability, technology, and global energy independence.
